Brake pads should last from 25,000 to 70,000 miles, depending on application and usage. Pads such as our SRT Street-Road-Track are extremely high performance, and deliver optimum braking performance, but will wear faster than other PBR pads. If you feel that your brake pads are wearing prematurely you may need to have your mechanic install heavier duty pads. The main cause of premature wear is high temperatures caused by braking on steep terrain, towing of heavy loads and constant braking, which increases braking temperatures and reduces life of brake pads. Wear rate will always vary based on formulation and driving style.
Your brakes should operate with minimal amount of noise. Some noise is normal, but excessive squeal, screech, grinding, or groaning means your brake system requires attention. Pads could be worn out and cause severe damage to brake rotors. Also, employing wrong formulation for your driving style can cause noise in brakes due to excessive heat. Higher performing materials, such as our SRT, will naturally have a higher noise factor, and is normal for this type of friction material.
If the brake pedal pulsates, or if the steering wheel or the entire vehicle shakes or vibrates when brakes are applied, then the disc brake rotors may need resurfacing or replacing. More serious problems such as loose components or faulty steering mechanism can also cause vibration.
PBR recommends the replacement of rotors every time a brake job is performed for the best performance of your braking system.
PBR brake pads will perform identical to original equipment pads your vehicle came with from the factory. Braking performance for PBR products in many cases are superior to original equipment formulations.

PBR BREAK-IN PROCEDURES:

After installing PBR brake pads they need to be broken-in properly. To condition friction and rotors correctly, PBR recommends following procedures:

  • Accelerate vehicle to 40 MPH.
  • Apply brakes using light to moderate pedal effort to reduce speed to approximately 10 MPH.
  • Repeat steps 1 and 2 at least ten times, allowing 1/4 mile between cycles.
  • Under no circumstances drive the vehicle with the brakes continually applied as a break-in procedure because:
    • Excessive heat will be generated.
    • Resins will burn.
    • Loss of braking efficiency could occur.
PBR brake pads are warranted against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship for life of the pad. Due to variances in driving conditions and operators however, there is no warranty on pad wear.
