2010 Standardized Running Rules |
Starts and Restarts
Flagman starts and restarts the race.
Single file restarts.
Single file restarts within last 5 laps of Main, lapped cars to rear in order.
Single file restarts in Heat Races.
Lapped cars stay in line.
Entire field is green when flagman waves green. |

In-Race
Black Flag if cause 2 cautions (A-Main and Heats).
2 courtesy caution laps to change tires in work area provided you are in the work area prior to the lineup being set for the restart. (A-Main only).

Line Up
Heat races determined by random pill draw.
Total car count determines the number of heat races.
Top three finishers from each heat (when there are 3 heats) will participate in random redraw during intermission on the front straightaway for starting position in A-Main.
The balance of the A-Main line up is determined by heat race finish.
(If there are 16 cars or less, there will be 2 heats with top 4 in each heat participating in redraw. In the case where the car count would indicate that we have 4 heats, the top 2 in each heat will participate in the redraw.)

Southwest Dirt Racing Association (SWDRA) – 2010 Rules
- The rules and/or regulations set forth herein do not express or imply warranty of safety from publication of or compliance with these rules and/or regulations, they are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are no way a guarantee against injury to any participants.
- SWDRA rules shall apply at all SWDRA sanctioned events.
- SWDRA officials have full authority over SWDRA sanctioned events. At the discretion of SWDRA officials, any competitor may be disqualified for rules violation, hazardous actions, assaults or threats against any official.
- All SWDRA race cars are subject to be inspected by SWDRA officials at any time.

SWDRA Membership and Pill Draw
- Membership dues are $100.00 for each car. Only members will participate in end of year point fund payout.
- Pill draw will be $10.00 per car at each SWDRA race event. Pill draw start time and end time will be announced at each event.
- Drivers who do not draw a pill will tag their respective heat race.
- Pit pass prices are determined by each track.
- The total number of cars at each event will determine the number of heats, B-main(s).

Drivers Meeting
- All drivers are required to attend track drivers meeting. Team members and team owners are encouraged to attend. All SWDRA drivers are required to attend any special SWDRA meeting called after track meeting.

Race Procedures |
|
Wheel Packing
- Failure to wheel pack if directed to do so, will result in tagging all events for that race night.
|
|
Heat Races
- Heat race line up will determined by random pill draw. Lowest pill draw will start on pole of first heat, second lowest pill on pole of second heat and so on. Failure to draw a pill will result in tagging your heat race.
- Heat races will have a maximum number of 10 cars in a heat.
- Heat races will be 8 laps unless track officials announce a different number of laps.
- Single file restarts after caution in all heat races.
- If a driver/car causes 2 cautions during the heat race, you will be black flagged and sent to the pit area.

Main Event
- Standard main event will start 20 cars.
- Redraw for main event starting position will be at the beginning of intermission. Drivers are expected to be on time and ready for re-draw. If a driver fails to appear for the redraw, his position will be to start in the last starting spot on the redraw.
- Flagman is to start initial start of race. Pole sitter is to set a reasonable pace. Anyone jumping before the Green flag is waved in initial start will be penalized 1 row for the first offense and to the tail of field for 2nd offense.
- Single file restarts in A-Main and heat races.
- No racing back to the yellow flag, all cars are expected to slow down as soon as it is safe to do so and get into single file, all positions reverts to previous green lap.
- If caution within the last 5 laps of Main, lapped cars will be placed behind the leaders in their running order as determined by track scorers.
- Black Flag if cause 2 cautions (A-Main and Heats) – All cars involved or that directly cause a caution will go to the rear of the field. If you stop on the track under green for any reason, this will count as one of your two cautions during any race. If you go to the pits, you will restart at the rear of the pack.
- 2 courtesy caution laps to change tires in work area provided you are in the work area prior to the lineup being set for the restart. (A-Main only).
- Note: if you have pitted and are 2 or more laps down, keep your line and do not race for position with the leaders.

Safety Equipment
- Fire resistant uniforms, gloves and neck collars mandatory.
- Full face racing helmet with minimum Snell rating of SA200 is mandatory.
- Window net on driver's side is mandatory.
- Fire resistant underwear and socks are highly recommended, but not mandatory.
- Halon fire extinguisher system recommended, but not required.
- A commercially manufactured racing seat belt with shoulder harness is required and must be securely fastened to the car frame.
- Solid steering wheel for protection of wrists recommended, but not required.
- HANS device recommended.

Engine
- All engines limited to 1 spark plug and 2 valves per cylinder. No duel magnetos.
- Engine: maximum 8" setback from center of ball joint to front spark plug hole, no tolerance.
- 1 – 4 barrel carburetor, no fuel injection, no electric fuel pumps.

Fuel Cells and Fuel
- All cars must have fuels cells – 32 gallon maximum in completely enclosed 18 gauge steel container. No aluminum allowed. All fuel cells must be completely visible. All cells must have a minimum of 2 – 2" x 1/8" steel straps surrounding them. Any driver having a fuel cell able to hold more than 32 gallons of fuel loses all winnings and points for that night and is fined $1,000. Any driver must drain fuel when asked and have it filled and measured any night.
- Minimum 1 ½" outside diameter (OD.) tubing braced loop behind cell; this hoop must be in place at all times.
- Fuel cells cannot be lower than the bottom of quick change.
- All fuel cells must have check valve in breather for prevention of fire in a rollover.
- No use of nitrous oxide, nitrous methane, propylene oxide, or any oxygen enhancing additive. All fuel is subject to be sampled at any time during a SWDRA event.

Weight Limit
- Minimum weight after race with driver 2300 lbs with aluminum block engine, 2250 lbs with steel block engine. All weight determinations will measured on scales selected and determined by SWDRA officials for each racing event.
NO TOLERANCE! 1 pound light is illegal.
- All added weights must be securely mounted to car with minimum of 2 ½" bolts through each 50 lbs of added weight. No weights on rear bumper or outside body of car. All added weight to be mounted below windows and interior sheet metal.
- All added weights must be white or silver, with driver's number painted on them.

Drive Shafts
- Drive shaft must be a minimum of 2" in diameter.
- A 1 ½" 18 gauge steel drive shaft loop mandatory.
- All drive shafts must either be painted silver or white.
- Only one drive shaft is permitted.

Exhaust System – Muffler
- All cars will be required to have mufflers. Any commercially manufactured muffler that does not exceed 100 decibels at 100 feet is legal. Mufflers must be securely attached to all cars. Pop riveting of mufflers will not be permitted. It is recommended that mufflers be welded to the headers. The mufflers must remain inside the doors. Any car that goes to scales after race without a muffler attached is subject to a $100 fine.
- All headers must be pointed away from ground, horizontal, preferably to outside of car.

Tires and Wheels
- Tires and wheels: Hoosier D55 Spec tires, Hoosier WRS D55 Spec tires and Hoosier WRS2 D55 Spec tires 11 x 92, 90, 88, 86. All SWDRA sanction events will run the same tire rule. All tires are subject to durometer testing prior to any race. D55's will read 55 or greater.
- All wheels must fit template with 14" maximum width.
- Any tire can be confiscated by a SWDRA official on any night at any track to be evaluated and returned within a reasonable period of time.
- There will be no defacing or altering of manufacturer's identification markings on any tire. You may not remove any letters, words, or numbers that would identify the tire. Any alteration of tires may result in immediate suspension from all SWDRA sanctioned races.
- No tire softener or tire treatment of any kind! Tire softeners found in dirt of any race track may force EPA to close that race track.
- Mud plugs should be foam or bolted behind beadlock securely to the wheel. Any driver losing metal or plastic mud plug on race track is subject to $200 fine.

Roll Cage
- Cars must have a suitable steel roll cage in driver's compartment, including headrest.
- Roll cage must be welded to the frame.
- Roll cage must be above drivers head.
- All round tube chassis must be a minimum of 1 ¾" OD tubing with minimum wall thickness of .083.

|
General Car Specs
- Standard Dirt Late Model bodies.
- OEM style nose piece. No wedge noses.
- 103" minimum wheel base – either side.
- Minimum drivers' side window opening of 12".
- Spoiler maximum height 8".
- Maximum deck height 38".
- No side boards.
- Interior of car must be 12" below roll cage minimum, all areas of roof, from front to behind driver's seat, no area of the interior of cockpit can be less than 12" below the roof and roll cage, for safety and ease of exiting of car from either side. All 4 windows must have 12" of clearance minimum straight up and down. Side windows 15" minimum at angle to door. No support bars blocking right exit from cockpit allowed. Rock guard must end at steering wheel for 12" of clearance and ease of exit from right side of car.
- All roofs must be 41" minimum to 54" maximum front to back, 48" minimum to 52" maximum side to side. Rounded and tapered stock appearing roofs only. No partial roofs, no flat roofs, no tilted roofs, no dished out roofs. No wings attached to roof or to side posts. No built in air dams, must be stock appearing. No Lexan roofs or sail panels.
- Rear roof post supports must meet outside of car on a flat straight line, and be stock appearing. Minimum width on bottom 18" minimum width on top 8". Maximum width on bottom for solid post 24" and maximum width on top for solid post 12". Maximum width on bottom of post with window 43" and maximum width on top of post with window 17" straight, the slope down to end with bottom at least 20" or greater from rear of trunk.
- Rear quarter panels cannot be higher than any portion of rear trunk. No tolerance. Trunk cannot be longer than quarter panels. Trunk must be level for 32" from rear of trunk.
- Side vents on front roof supports can extend back no further than 16" bottom, then straight up to roof for L configuration, side vents must meet outside of car.
- Side vents on front roof supports can extend back no further than 16" bottom, then straight up to roof for L configuration, side vents must meet outside of car.
- All roof posts must meet outside of car.
- No wings of any kind allowed in cockpit or under trunk, no tunnels or wings of any kind inside car or underneath car for special ground hugging effects. Rear inner mud shield must end at tail section of transmission with a maximum length of 18".
- Rear quarter panels cannot be higher than any portion of rear trunk. No tolerance. Trunk cannot be longer than quarter panels. Trunk must be level for 32" from rear of trunk.
- No side fins of any kind along the entire length of car. Interior of car maybe dropped.
- Minimum height to top of roof 45". Maximum height 48".
- Maximum height to top of trunk 36". Maximum height top of spoiler 43".
- Maximum height to top of hood or front fenders 36". No portion of hood to exceed 36". Must be level from side to side. Fenders cannot gain height from rear to front.
- Maximum body width to be measured by template. Cockpit top 76" and bottom 90" maximum for appearance only. Rear of car 72" top and bottom. Middle of rear can extend to 74". Nose side extensions are not to flare out or up. Top must be flush with fenders and hood. They cannot alter original shape of nosepiece and must be braced with collapsible supports. (No steel supports). Hub to front of stock nose 48" maximum, hub to front of non-stock nose 40".
- All structural tubing must remain inside body.
- All cars must have tow hook for towing purposes only, cable or chain preferred. Tow hook cannot extend in front of car or have battering ran capabilities.
- 8" maximum spoiler with aluminum block engine, 10" maximum spoiler with steel block engine, total material measured from trunk to tip of material. If aluminum angle is used to brace upper edge of spoiler, it may not add to the overall height or length. Aluminum angle must be turned over so it doesn't continue off the top edge of spoiler. Maximum width of spoiler is 72".
- Side spoiler supports must not exceed SWDRA inspectors' template. The entire support must be on trunk. There are three approved styles of spoiler supports – UMP style, MLRA style, or World of Outlaw/MARS style. Measurements for spoiler supports are on attached drawing. Top of support can have a strength bend of no more than 1/2" at a slight angle. Maximum of THREE spoiler supports. Third spoiler support may be replaced by two 1 inch aluminum braces.
- Maximum width from extreme outside of front tire to extreme outside of front tire 90" maximum. No tolerance.
Maximum width from outside rear tire to outside of rear tire 88" maximum. No tolerance. No more than 8" of any tire outside of body.
- Any sun shield must be on a hinge for easy exit. No taping allowed that brings window opening to less than 12".
- Tire clearances from body at least 2". No wheel skirts.
- Rear offsets are illegal. Must be equally tapered towards the center of car. All cars must be able to drive onto scales without lifting adjustments.
- Rear quarter panels must be tapered towards center of car equally.
- No adjustable shocks, hydraulic or pneumatic weight jacks, trackers, MSD boxes or similar adjustable components of any kind inside cockpit of car. No taping over. Must be removed from car.
- No electronic or computerized wheel spin traction control devices permitted. No controlled timing device attached to or controlling accelerator or rotation of wheel allowed.
- No rear push bars to extend over 6" beyond rear quarter panel.
- No direct drives allowed. Transmission must be bolted to engine. Must have forward and reverse gears. Must be able to shift to forward or reverse with engine running.
- The firewall at front of cockpit shall be a wall of protection against fire from the engine compartment. It shall be tightly solid (metal) from top to bottom. Not allowing airflow from the engine compartment into the cockpit.
- No rub rails.
- No mirrors.
- No radios allowed in race car, or on anyone connected with car.
- Body must conform to late model drawing below.

Rookie Drivers
- At the discretion of SWDRA officials, any driver who has not competed in a Late Model will tag at least one or two events until it is determined that they have enough experience to start in their qualifying order.

Results Posting, Official Finish and Protests
- All SWDRA races are scored by each race track. When the Official Finish is posted, drivers have five (5) minutes after the finish is posted to file a formal complaint if they disagree on the track scoring.
- All drivers who wish to file a protest must do so within this time frame in order for SWDRA officials and track personnel to determine the merit of each protest.
- After the Official Finish is posted and the time limit has passed, the posted finish will be considered closed and no protests will be accepted. Each driver is responsible for checking the finish and deciding if they have a protest.
- Points and Payout will be awarded from the Official Finish.

Conduct – Drivers, Team Members, Team Owners
- Remember that we are here because of race fans, track owners/promoters, sponsors and others. In order for SWDRA to be successful, this needs to be a win-win for everyone involved. There is never an excuse for bad behavior, which might bring the series into disrepute.
- Rough driving or retaliation: This is taken very seriously. Any driver taking part in rough driving as deemed by officials will be black flagged for that event. Retaliation consisting of any driver using a car to retaliate against another driver will be subject to either being black flagged for that event and being scored last, a fine of up to $500 and/or being suspended from participating in future SWDRA events for up to one year. This policy includes actions on the track, leaving the race track or in the pit area.
- There will be no derogatory or distasteful statements on any race car or hauler at any SWDRA sanctioned event.
- SWDRA officials will have the final decision on all lettering on all race cars and haulers. Failure to remove any offensive lettering may result in being disqualified from all future 2010 SWDRA events and a fine of up to $500.00.
- Any driver, team member, team owner who approaches another drivers pit in a physical confrontation will be considered as the Aggressor and may be suspended from the next SWDRA event and fined up to $100 for the 1st offense. A second or more offense may result in a one year suspension and a $500 fine. All drivers are responsible for their crew or team members; this includes family members who may be in the pit area as well.
- If both drivers are not in their respective pit areas when a physical confrontation occurs, then both drivers will be considered as the Aggressors and will be held equally responsible.
- Any fines collected will be added to the season point fund.
- No driver, team member, team owner shall subject any SWDRA official to any threatening statements, abuse or improper language at any time. Any driver, team member or team owner who assaults or threatens any SWDRA official may be fined up to $1000 and suspended from all SWDRA sanctioned events until the fine is paid and reinstatement is approved by SWDRA.
